This lecture will examine the relationship between the major motifs of the Art Nouveau movement and the motional and symbolic themes through the medium of jewelry. Mr. Macklowe will present how jewelry evolved from status symbol to a form of self-expression and how Eastern, Ancient, and European art and culture influenced the motifs at the core of the Art Nouveau movement.
